(Political Satire) NEW YORK — After President-elect Trump stepped into a diplomatic snafu by speaking with Taiwan, his advisors quickly jumped into damage control and assured the public that this wasn’t a mistake at all, but a carefully orchestrated and brilliant plan.

According to sources inside the Trump camp, Mr. Trump took the phone call “by design.”

“It was carefully planned and orchestrated. It’s all part of his master plan to make America great again. You know, like not reading security briefings. That’s not a mistake, it’s a brilliant negotiating ploy.”

Based on the coverage this new explanation has had in the press, with front page stories explaining this as part of Mr. Trump’s China plan, this technique has been working so well that the President-elect Tweeted a surprise announcement this morning.

“From now on, if I make any kind of mistake, it’s not a mistake, it’s all part of my plan, believe me.”

This drew immediate praise from Republicans.

“Masterful, ” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. “The President-elect is demonstrating one of the key differences America is going to see between the Obama administration and his.”

The Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan said, “The President continues to make America great again by getting big government, and the truth, out of people’s lives.”

Finally, the strategy seems to be working so well, that the nominee for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, said, “I think we ought to teach this to school children. What better way to get out of doing homework than by saying it’s part of a master plan? This will give the next generation a real competitive edge with the rest of the world in, you know, avoiding responsibility! I can’t wait to get to work on this!”

But it doesn’t seem to be working so well at home. When Mr. Trump forgot to walk his dog, Taco Bowl, and he had an accident on the rug in the Penthouse, Mr. Trump said it wasn’t a mistake but a “brilliant plan.”

“Mrs. Trump wasn’t buying, ” a source said.
